This book is beautifully bound and printed, but the contents are the most beautiful and inspiring collection of short stories of Near Death Experiences accompanied by reflection, scripture and prayer. The stories contained in this book are an affirmation that God's love is real and His promises are real. I bought several copies and I hope to buy more as gifts.

A great way to start each morning, reading a quick story and being reminded in another unique way of how amazing Jesus is and how personal and loving he is. I love also how the stories people share tie so directly to what Jesus has promised us in the Bible. It's like what he said is true or something! 🤣Thank you for writing this book - it is so helpful and brings me immense comfort, joy and peace being reminded whose I am and where I'm going!

Wonderful book

This devotional book is about Near Death Experiences, heaven and not-so-heavenly experiences....It is my favorite and accompanies the book, "Imagine Heaven". I recently sent both of these books to a couple who just lost their daughter along with other close family members in the past few years.

Purchased this for a friend who lost her adult son suddenly. She loved it and bought the book for his siblings.

The BEST book I have read in years. Literally change my entire perspective and outlook on death. Thank you John Burke for writing and putting this book together...it is a treasure.

I think most of us have wondered what life would be like after we die. We wonder what does Heaven look like? Imagine Heaven Devotional by John Burke and Kathy Burke has 100 devotions sharing true stories of near-death experiences.Each devotion in the Imagine Heaven Devotional starts out with a Bible verse, then there is a two-page devotion that includes at least one or more stories from people who have had near-death experiences, and it ends with a prayer. This hardcover book has a beautiful cover that looks rather like we imagine heaven and it includes a ribbon marker. It really is gorgeous and would make a good gift for almost anyone.I enjoyed reading Imagine Heaven Devotional to start my day and to end my day. I just felt my faith being lifted up as I read through this book. If I am honest, I also felt less scared about dying even though as a Christian I already knew I was going to a better place. This book just left me feeling more heavenly minded and less worried about what was going on around me today. I believe I slept better and I started my day better. I would encourage every Christian to read this book. . .and I think it would also be good for those who are not Christians but are wondering about the faith and after life.I received this book from the publisher. I received a complimentary copy of the Imagine Heaven Devotional, 100 Reflections to Bring Heaven to Your Life Today by John and Kathy Burke from Baker Books. I always love getting the opportunity to review devotionals and thought this one would provide a unique perspective.As I began reading the devotional, I found the book included many near death experiences (also known as NDEs). While I'm not a believer in near death experiences where people claim to have been transported to heaven and have seen the face of Jesus, I do believe there are events that bring people into a situation where they face their mortality in a life changing way.I had concerns as I read the first few accounts of near death experiences. I wondered, as I read, how unbelievers or baby Christians, might receive the information shared and whether or not they'd put more stock in the dramatic events of the NDE than in what the authors shared from the Bible on the same or similar topics.I've been a Christian for over 52 years and know my Bible backwards and forwards so when I read something that I know is not scripturally sound, it immediately puts a check in my spirit. It seems in our crazy, mixed up world today that people are always looking for sensationalism and since most people wonder about the afterlife, near death experiences in movies, television, or books draw a big following.I'm not trying to be overly critical, please don't misunderstand. The authors are very compassionate and careful in the way they point the readers to truth in their commentaries that follow each NDE. I did appreciate the fact that they included Scripture references and prayers at the end of each daily devotional, but once again, I think readers will focus more on the near death experiences than on the words shared by the authors.It is extremely important to me to have people understand the loving character of God than to have them focus on angels or sensationalistic events. Our job as Christians is to preach Christ crucified and to point them into understanding how to have a secure eternity in His presence.The Bible says, in John 1:18, "No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known." This verse, for me, nullifies any claims made from those who claim to have been to heaven and then returned to Earth.I have had three experiences in my life where I came close to death. Two of those were extreme health issues and one was a terrible car accident. In all of those experiences, I never saw God, angels or was taken up to heaven. I did, however, feel an overwhelming peace as family and friends prayed for me and I knew God was watching over me and keeping me safe.This, of course, is my personal opinion and other readers of the devotional, Imagine Heaven may not agree with me and that's okay. We're all entitled to our own opinions but we should all respect and love one another just as Jesus taught us to do.I would like to thank Baker Books for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

I am so absolutely in love with both Annabelle & Aiden books! They're inspiring and thought-provoking. They're simple while still giving credit to the young minds reading them. I love so much that the author kept the element of magic without using magic to explain the concepts they are teaching. These books should make their way onto every kid's bookshelf! Can't wait to see what adventures Annabelle and Aiden go on next!

This book is AMAZING. It's beautiful and it does such a good job breaking down evolution and natural selection and where we came from. It rhymes, and the kids just love it. Everyone paused afterwards and said, "wow, that was a really good book!" Educational, beautiful, and entertaining…the trifecta.

This book introduces young children to Darwinian evolution through beautifully written lyrical verse and stunning illustrations. Drawing on the natural curiosity of young children JR Becker tackles a big question, “Where did we come from?”, in a fun child-friendly way while maintaining the academic integrity needed in science education. This entertaining, educational, and visually captivating book has become a favorite in our home, my daughter now calls Annabelle and Aiden her best friends.

This is our family's favorite book! I think I value this book so much because we can read it together on a simple level and get so much out of it--it's beautiful, the rhyme is engaging, it has a sweet message my kids can relate to. But also, both my kids and I can spend more time lost in any page, even any corner of any page, of the book learning more about evolution and biology. This is truly our favorite book!!

About the Author

Clara E. Hill earned her Ph.D. at Southern Illinois University in 1974. She started her career in 1974 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology, University of Maryland, and is currently still there as a Professor. She has been President of the Society for Psychotherapy Research, Editor of the Journal of Counseling Psychology, and Co-Editor of Psychotherapy Research. Awards include the Leona Tyler Award (Society of Counseling Psychology), the Distinguished Psychologist Award (Division 29 of the American Psychological Association), the Distinguished Research Career Award (Society for Psychotherapy Research), and the Outstanding Lifetime Achievement Award (Section on Counseling and Psychotherapy Process and Outcome Research, Society for Counseling Psychology). Her major research interests are helping skills, psychotherapy process and outcome, training therapists, dream work, and qualitative research. She has published 187 journal articles, 67 chapters in books, and 11 books (including Helping Skills, Dream Work in Therapy, Insight in Psychotherapy, Transformation in Psychotherapy, and Consensual Qualitative Research). Good for a textbook - very easy to read and comprehend. I like the exploration, insight, action approach. It seems grounded in reality and good practice. The author's love for her work comes through. You won't want to sit down and read this for the joy of it - but, for a textbook, it's not too bad.

This book has a lot of helpful ideas for counsellors however much of it seems like common sense. From what I understand, the previous edition contains the same information, with the chapters ordered slightly differently .

The book was in really awful condition when it arrived. I didn’t feel comfortable taking it with me to class because pages were just falling out and the binding was falling apart. At least I could read it?

I rented this book for an online class. The book was in good quality and saved me money rather than having to buy the book I would never again use. The process of renting and returning the book is very simple. I would recommend

I bought this book for my pre-practicum class and am in the process of reading the book by Hill. I find it to be a very helpful book for a counseling student to learn the skills to become a professor helper. The book clearly outlines how to do reflections and ask open-ended questions. It also provides documented research backing what studies say about Rogerian therapy. I think the exercises at the end of the book help the student to learn to put the skills into practice.

I had a problem with the book. The binding in the cover started to come apart after 2 weeks. The book was in my backpack or on my desk. There was no reason for it to do this .

I use this as a basic text for training medical students in counseling skills. Solid coverage of the listening skills, and other foundational counseling methods generic to many theoretical approaches.

I am a PA student in my clinical year. I used this book to prepare for my pediatrics rotation as well as to study for my PAEA end of rotation (EOR) exam. This book gave me an advantage on my rotation and helped me to do very well on my EOR - much better than I expected or was even hoping for. The topics emphasized in this book were very similar to the topics emphasized on the exam and some of the practice questions were almost identical to exam questions. I would highly recommend this to any PA student - especially for clinicals and EOR exams.

Overall, I found this book to be useful for light reading when I had downtime on the ward. It was a good review for pertinent topics, and the comprehension questions and explanations were helpful. However, there needs to be significant editing. I noticed that sometimes the answers to the comprehensive questions did not match the keys. This is something that I have noticed in other books in thenCase Files series, specifically Surgery.TLDR; Good book but beware of some editing mistakes.

A must-have for the peds shelf exam. This was the only resource I used and I passed first time. If you're shooting for high grades on your shelf exam, you'll need other resources, but for a book that can be read cover to cover in just a couple days, this is a great studying tool.

I spent 3 of my 5 weeks on pediatrics in the PICU. I found this book was moderately helpful in touching up on presentations you don't see on whatever ward you are assigned to (e.g., helpful for NICU stuff). Did not find it helpful for the shelf.

Very comprehensive book. Can't compare it to earlier editions since I haven't looked at those but I really liked this one. I'm just starting with the Case Files series but so far I like them.

Great way to learn on the go while you are on rotations. Each case doesn't take long so you do 1 or 2 cases while waiting to see patients. They do a great job of explaining differential diagnoses. Also really enjoy the questions at the end of each case to solidify what you are learning.

Used it to study for PA-S end of rotation exams and it was a fantastic book! it had everything I needed to know. I would highly recommend it to any PA-S out there looking for a way to steady for EORs.

It's ok to have. Doesn't really help on other diseases such as congentital, etc...

I guess I already know more about diabetes than I thought and was hoping for some newer info. The approach of this book was bit off putting to me. I purchased 3 books on the subject of pre-diabetes and this one was not my favorite. Just my opinion and I encourage you to decide for yourself. I preferred the The everything guide to managing and reversing pre-diabetes. Again, just a personal choice. An easy read and recipes that were interesting and new to me. I was diagnosed with Polycycstic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) when I was a slim 14-year-old. By the time I was 35 and had two sets of twins, I weighed over 250 pounds, and I needed help. I tried Nutri-system, South Beach, Weight Watchers (twice), the body type diet and Atkins, and nothing worked for my body. Finally, a friend with PCOS told me she was having success with this book, and it was basically the answer to my prayers.I actually really hate the cover of this book, because it’s so marketing-centric with it’s “Fat Making Machine” and the choice of the word “diet.” But diets, to me, are systems of eating that are temporary. This is not really a diet; it’s a guide for learning to balance any food so you can eat for the rest of your life.Basically, this is the insulin resistance bible. The Insulin Resistance Diet explains why it’s necessary to eat protein with carbohydrates and what amounts work best for balance. It also explains which kinds of foods will spike a blood sugar response and how to avoid that so that you can continue to eat from all the food groups in a healthy way. It’s about learning how to pair foods–any foods you want–in a way that won’t make you feel sick or store them as fat. Yes, there are recipes (I didn't use them much, but they're there), but really, this book is about learning how to eat and adapt any recipe you want for the rest of your life. 90 pounds later, I can definitely say this book is worth the money.

I have PCOS with Insulin Resistance. My weight had gotten out of control and I had no idea what to do. I heard about The Insulin Resistance Diet from other women with PCOS, so I decided to give it a try. I have found this way of eating to be extremely easy to follow, easy to stick to, and I've lost over 30 pounds in 2 months. I'll definitely be sticking with the Insulin Resistance Diet

I bought this book in 2010 when my Dr. told me I was pre-diabetic. I do not have diabetes, 7 years later. This solid advice works in preventing diabetes, a completely preventable disaster.

Getting older and fatter. I have tried low carb, Weight Watchers. exercise, my doctor's diet, Adkins. hyper exercise 30 day diets. pre cooked food diets and on and on. If i try very hard count my calories to 800 and exercise i might loose 10 lbs over time. The minute i eat or drink anything not on the diet I gain 2 lbs that day. I end up fatter than when I started. Now with this program I lost 4 lbs the first week without trying. I study a lot so exercise is minimal. I have all my life needed more sleep than the average person. I sleep soundly at night and need a 30 min nap every day. MOT ANY MORE! This program has changed my sleep pattern in one week. I do not nap and I stay up until 11 pm every night. THANK YOU FOR THIS BOOK!

I'm so disappointed in this book and the way it almost misguided me in my journey to treat my insulin resistance/PCOS. The book is founded on the completely false idea that protein causes no insulin response, so you should eat a lot of it. In fact, high protein no-carb foods like eggs, meat and ESPECIALLY the skim dairy recommended so much in this book, all measure very high on the insulin index. Some foods, like cheese, and steak, cause an insulin spike as big as that of white bread! No-glucose-spike does NOT mean no-insulin-spike, and this is a big problem for someone who already produces excess insulin after every meal and has hormone problems because of it. There are many studies on this - please research for yourself. Was this information not available when the book was written? I'm so sad because initially I was so excited about the idea this book proposed of finding a way I can still eat foods I love and get away with it. I'm glad I did more reading on my own before I caused more damage to my health.

This is a great buy! I've hit the 50 mark and things are moving along as they were in my 20's! I started carrying more around my middle than is necessary. I ordered this book and followed the breakdown of how to blend protein, fat and carbs and am down 15lbs! Mostly around my mid-section. I plan to continue the guides outlined here and incorporate more exercise (just ordered a Fitbit Flex 2) and will hopefully be able to work off another 10-20lbs over the next few months. For me, this was definitely worth the purchase price.

This booklet contains the complete Title 47 Part 97 law that forms the basis of regulation for amateur radio. The book is divided into roughly two equal parts. The last half of the book contains the unexpurgated version of Part 97. The first half of the book contains commentary on the law (by Dan Henderson N1ND)--which is helpful since some regulations are rather obtuse (like the definition of "Line A") and like any other law, the interpretation is subject to, well, interpretation. Anyone contemplating joining the ranks of amateur radio operators would be well advised to obtain a copy of Part 97 and read the law. The modest size of Part 97 is somewhat surprising given the natural tendency of governments to over-regulate. However, the FCC has always relied on the fall-back phrase: "each amateur station must be operated in accordance with good engineering and good amateur practice" SubPart B 97.101a.

FCC rules in one book. It is what it is. Nothing special just government rules. Good read if you need to go to sleep.

This book is a must for any operator of Amateur Radios. The book is from ARRL, which is the leader in Amateur Radio materials. The book is thin, but the size of a sheet of paper - I would rather have a smaller, possibly thicker book to include in my go kit.I think the book is a little over priced at list as the entire regulations are available online for free and can be printed out. As of my review, there have been some changes to Part 97 - but nothing significant to require a revision. (That means you have to keep up with the regs, something ARRL can help you do!) The book does include ARRL's The FCC Rules and You to give you guidance on how to use the rules in your daily operating.I was fortunate that I paid a fraction of the cost for this book - so keep an eye out and maybe Amazon will discount this book.

Daniel Brown's "Introduction to Islam" provides an excellent overview of Islamic history, theology, sectarianism, and politics. The writer approaches the subject from an historical perspective, describing developments in these areas from pre-Islamic Arabia through yo the present. Of particular strength is the analysis of the cultural context of the rise of Islam and of Sufism and reactions to dominance of this movement particularly both political and theological reactions arising in the twentieth century. I recommend the book as an anecdote to the widely held view of the monolithic structure of Islam (a point specifically addressed in the final section of the book). This would be a very good book for a comparative religions course.
