About the Author

David H. Stern, born in Los Angeles in 1935, is the great-grandson of two of the city's first twenty Jews. He earned a Ph.D. in economics at Princeton University and was a professor at UCLA. In 1972 he came to faith in Yeshua the Messiah. He then received a Master of Divinity degree at Fuller Theological Seminary, did graduate work at the University of Judaism, and was active in the Messianic Jewish movement. In 1979 the Stern family made aliyah (immigrated to Israel); they now live in Jerusalem. Dr. Stern authored the "Messianic Jewish Manifesto". His highly acclaimed English translation, the "Jewish New Testament," restores the New Testament's Jewishness. His "Jewish New Testament Commentary" discusses the many Jewish issues found in the New Testament. His fresh translation, the "Complete Jewish Bible", expresses the unity of the Tanakh ("Old Testament") and the B'rit Hadashah ("New Testament"). This outstanding, scholarly work offers Bible readers a thorough, biblically Jewish version of God's word.

I appreciate the rational of approaching the text from the perspective of a 1st century Jew. Which at that time was a good portion of the audience that the Inspired were speaking to. Reading Galatians and other passages through this lens certainly made the Apostle Paul feel more harsh/blunt in his rebuking than NASB, KJV or another English translation might, yet the care he has for the Church remains. I also appreciated the literal and accurate use of words like "immersed" in place of baptism(an English transliteration of baptistheto), to make understood what is often misunderstood. At times the text does seem like it has a bit more subjection to its interpretation and the language is a bit more modern, but as a study tool this can parallel quite well with other translations.

This is a translation of the Bible that goes out of its way to use Hebrew terms in place of perfectly good and understandable English words thruout, for example Rosh Chodesh for “New Moons”. I understand that this is an attempt to convey Christianity's essential Jewishness, but the replacement of terms with Hebraic words made for difficult reading and eventually got in the way for me. I recognize and applaud the intent, but it was just too much.

Love this Torah/Bible translation by Rabbi Stern; it has helped broaden my understanding of God's word and actually found some things in this translation that I didn't know, clarified some interpretations on other aspects; overall, I am a huge fan that I am adding the Commentary Rabbi Stern has done and I have the Complete Jewish Bible. Recommend buying all three; have a personal library of books that I keep especially for my study time.

I have been reading this for many years, and have bought many for giving to friends who have never heard of it before. I would recommend anyone who is interested in understanding the Bible better, to give this version of the New Testament a try. Our Bible was written by Jews, for the most part, and was translated by non-Jews who did not understand a lot of the phrases used by Jews. The translators also translated some of the proper names wrong. For instance Mary, the mother of Jesus, was really Miriam. Jesus name is Yeshua. Christ is Greek for Messiah. On and on.

an excellent addition to my library, i plan to follow up and get more of his works and titles. excellent author, great content and physically the book is of great quality. an excellent addition to my library, i plan to follow up and get more of his works and titles. excellent author, great content and physically the book is of great quality. i use this book everyday in our studies and weekly in our study group

I absolutely love this Bible. My understanding of the Bible and the Jewish foundations our Christian faith is built on has grown significantly studying it. Since this Bible was written/translated from the original Hebrew, there is not a political platform or target population. I believe that makes it a purer translation of the Word.

I really love this! I'm learning Hebrew words as I read the Holy Bible. Reading a chapter from the Bible and then the same chapter from JNT.

I love this book. I purchased hardbound because they are ultimately easier to use. David Stern's translations seem to be more accurate that others I have purchased.
