Though the author does reasonably well on many of his premises concerning the New Testament, his failure to present the various sides in certain matters of archeology concerning the Old Testament make the rest of his work suspect. For example, in the dating of Solomon's temple, he states as fact a date that is anything but certain and fails to present arguments for other dates, even arguments from scholars who do not literally interpret the Bible or consider it historically accurate. As I am one who researches claims made in any book, whether I agree with the overall premise or not, I found this disappointing. Presenting even a few one-sided claims does not bolster an author's argument but merely makes all the other arguments suspect. More importantly, since the book was written new archeological discoveries have come to light further complicating the dating issue. Though it is fair to point out that some Biblical "archeologists" start with the premise the Bible is perfect and historically accurate and try to make the evidence fit, archeological interpretation and dating are best left to be debated among archeologists.

This is an incredibly comprehensive examination of how the Bible is not the divinely inspired book that Christians claim it to be. Even though it uses the Bible against itself, extra-biblical sources would have improved it considerably. It also could have used some better proofreading, but that's just grasping at straws. Still, I would highly recommend people that are on the fence about their faith to give this a read and supplement that with the Bible itself. How someone could come away thinking it is divinely inspired after reading the entire thing is beyond me. It is, quite plainly, a hodgepodge of inconsistent writings borne out of superstition and prejudice, which this book adequately demonstrates.

Plenty of useful information, but rather dry, unorganized, and it contains its share of logical fallacies. Worth the low price.

The review of the content of this book is far less important than the review of the background of the author, his intent in its creation and publication and what we, as a reading public, are encouraged to do with its conclusions. Let me initially say that, no, the author is not, nor does he claim to be, an expert in theology, nor does he claim that this book is without prejudice, for it clearly has its share of that. What he does claim, however, that he, like most of us, had been reared and indoctrinated in an unquestioning and fearful social structure that accepted Christian teaching without so much as a whimper of disbelief in what we were being told. The persons who taught us to fully suppress any questions when the subject turned to religion, in turn, were reared in the same fashion. That which was not questioned originally was then never to be questioned throughout the ensuing generations. The author merely turns this inane proposition, rejects it and examines all of the scriptures we call `holy'. He then allows them to rise or fall on their own merit.Does the author exhibit anger because he feels he was misled? The title of the book tells it all; Biblical Nonsense. Of course he did. He is angry as any one of would be if we felt we had been deceived throughout our lifetime by people that we were told we could trust. This is not the same level as the sudden realization at age nine that Santa doesn't exist. This deception deals with the bedrock of not only the morality and the holy sacredness we were taught that should exist in our own lifetimes but what we were told about our humanity living on into eternity. So, did the author become sarcastic at times in the text? Yes, but that is only another form of anger expression. All of us should become angry if, indeed, what the author conveys is true.Does the author attempt to convince you, like most religionists would do, that his is the only way to view God (or whatever you want to identify as being the Supreme Being)? No. He simply wants each of us to take the same responsibility that he has taken and that is to curiously question that which others tell you should be accepted solely on `faith'. We do it in all other less important areas of our lives, why would we not do it in the area that is the most critical to our entire state of being; our spirituality. I congratulate the author for asking such a bold and perilous questions and taking the steps necessary to attain a more honest and meaningful definition of life.I have read other books of a similar nature and have done countless hours of self-study in these same areas (with nearly the same results). For someone who wants a good summary text that explores the basic areas where the Bible appears to be erroneous, I strongly advise this book. Will you be shocked by what you read? Obviously, yes. Will you be convinced that the author's conclusions are accurate and meaningful to your life? Probably not. But will you file its contents away in the back of your mind and, by doing so, eventually take a fresher look at the question, "Who am I and why am I here?". I certainly hope so.May God truly speed us all on our individual journeys.....

Before becoming an atheist 10 years ago I had been heavily involved with the christian religion for 30 plus years. Although having a great deal knowledge and animosity of the christian religion I have held back criticism for the most part; however, after contact with multiple christian fundamentalist who so often lure people into conversation, with what sounds like polite conversation, only to become a witnessing event with the christian not wanting to take no for an answer, I’ve decided to arm myself with information so as to ward off these cultish people; this is the perfect book filled with solid facts for this purpose. Another book that I’ve found of equal proportions is Guy Harrison’s ‘50 Reasons People Give for Believing in a God.’
