This book is amazing!. Mr. Lucchesi builds a sculpture from the skeleton out, adding the muscles and skin--all with the Greek and Latin medical terms. As a student this information is invaluable in more accurately sculpting the human form. The diagrams also happen to be useful in my work. This is a 'how to' book, but not for the squeamish.
Pretty similar to "Modeling the Head in Clay: Creative Techniques" in that it shows the process in great detail but does not give you too much information to bring to your own works. Got it at a great price used and makes an okay addition to my resource library.
If you are a representational figurative sculptor, and want to learn how to build the human body from the inside out, you cannot have a clearer how-to with pictures treasure book. 360 degree and close-up views are included with each step.Step by step, the master shows how to build the figure starting with the skeleton, and laying on each muscle, then fatty tissue and skin layer. Serious artists will benefit by getting a medical poseable skeleton, along with the 19th century classic "Artistic Anatomy" by Dr Paul Richer.Study hard, and do the exercise like you were in class with the teacher. There are no shortcuts, however,the dedicated few will advance exponentially, but only by having the patience and discipline to follow through. It pays to know more rather than less.
Bruno Lucchesi's own work is of the highest order. While he is no Bernini or Michelangelo, he certainly compares to modern masters such as the late Frederick Hart. Without doubt, he can walk the walk!He demonstrates and diagrams how a nascent sculptor with representational instincts can kick off his or her career on a solid note. I love this book. Modeling the Figure In Clay: A Sculptor's Guide to Anatomy was listed as recommended reading for a sculpting class I took in college and I bought it out of curiostiy. I am at a beginner's level in sculpting and I found this book easy to understand. For anyone who learns by sight and needs clear pictures on the entire process beginning to end; Modeling the Figure In Clay: A Sculptor's Guide to Anatomy is an absolute must have.
My favorite sculpture book of all time. It's old but it stands the test of time. Great for a beginner and I have referenced it for over 20 years.

I needed this for my traditional 3D modeling class for a figure ecorche model assignment. This book was a good reference on how to approach sculpting and what tools and techniques to use.
