It is truly an outstanding work, however, I cant help but miss a lot of important examples from all over the world. An enlarged second edition will be most welcome.
My husband surprised me with this epic tome for chirstmas, and I absolutely love it. The book is thoughtfully divided by global region, and the examples of brutalist architecture are clearly documented and explained. There's even a clever key that tells you the current status of the buildings, their use, and unfortunately for some, their destruction. The only complaint I have is that despite it's size, some great examples of Brutalism are missing (like Riverside plaza and Peavey in Minneapolis). This is a must-have for any fans of this iconic style.
This is a good book for my son, who is an architect.

(Bought from Phaidon) For years I’ve long loved Brutalism, so I have to laugh that it’s getting so much love now for the fantastic extension of Modernist design that the movement purveyed...my pals and relatives that listened to me expound on the beauty of stark forms and rawness of materials that the movement gave us used to make fun of me for loving such “ugliness†can now eat my socks; Brutalism is beautiful. PLUS, let’s not forget about Brutalist inspired interior design, furniture, domestic objects, and the like: the style is exquisite. Enjoy this volume, as it’ll surely go for much more in price once it’s out of print as it’s one of the marquee pubs on the movement.
