About the Author
Takehiko Inoue is the creator of one of the most popular manga of all time, Slam Dunk, which has sold over 100 million copies worldwide. He followed that series up with two titles lauded by critics and fans alike--Vagabond, a fictional account of the life of Miyamoto Musashi, and Real, a manga about wheelchair basketball. Ripped packaging like it was already opened.
Bought as a gift for my husband and he throughly enjoyed it.
I love the whole series so far. I like different types of Manga and this series hits home really well, because I also teach Martial Arts for a living. I would wait and buy the VIZ BIG versions as opposed to buying the separate smaller volumes. Why? to save money. Otherwise all is good.
Came as ordered some wear as described. finished my current collection and hope to find more soon. hip hip hurray.

I love Takehiko Inoue. His work is spectacular, and these VIZBIG books are really convienent.
As much as I love the moments of visceral action, when the book is teeming with blood and gore, this series truly shines during its more tranquil moments when the characters take the time to ponder their place in this great, big world. Gazing at Inoue's breathtaking depiction of nature never fails to put me at ease. It's difficult to articulate the feelings I experience whenever I read it. Suffice to say, it's something you must read if you're ever feeling lost. I'm still perplexed at how a manga about battles between bloodthirsty men can be so damn relaxing. I think this might be my favorite volume yet.
After a stunning conclusion to his duel with Seijuro, Musashi is taken in by a kindly sword sharpener to recover from his wounds - in both the flesh and the spirit. He tries desperately to apply all the wisdom he's gained in his many encounters over the past year to understand his quest for invincibility. Meanwhile Kyoto is abuzz with talk about his upcoming duel with Denshichiro, who is more fully developed as a character in his relationships to his brother, his wife and child, and the disciples in the Yoshioka school. Sasaki Kojiro finally meets with his imposter Matahachi, who continues to try to deceive and manipulate everyone around him. Kojiro also finally meets Musashi, but their encounter is nothing like I expected. This volume has a major duel in the very beginning and very end, but the rest is filled with reflection and a surprising amount of playfulness...if you've ever wondered what a samurai would do with a snowman, this volume will answer that question for you. Pictured on the back of the Vizbig cover is Ueda, a Yoshioka disciple who exhibits cleverness and daring in trying to prevent the duel. We only see the beginning of Musashi's duel with Denshichiro at the end, but it's clear that Musashi's skill has grown to transcend even his own comprehension.
